Schloss Kammer lies on a peninsula at the northern end of the Attersee, Austria’s largest lake. There is evidence of human occupation here as early as 300 BC but the first military fortress was constructed about 1200 by Haidfalk von Chammer and subsequently modified and extended from the beginning of the 17th century onward. The castle consists of a solid three storey building with two side wings enclosing a courtyard. The elegant building in its picturesque setting was a favourite subject of the painter Gustav Klimt.
