Recreating the atmosphere and interior of the period, this museum was once home to the ‘Waltz King’, the composer Johann Strauss. He resided here with his first wife, the singer Jetty Treffz, from 1863 until her death in 1878. It was here that his most famous work ‘An der Schönen blauen Donau’ (The Blue Danube) was written. Among the exhibits are a baby grand piano, presented to Strauss by Ludwig Bosendorfer in 1896, his harmonium and standing desk at which he used to compose. There is also an intriguing collection of mementos from balls and dances of the time.
