The Pferdeeisenbahnmuseum is housed in a former building of the old railway company. The Linz-Wels-Gmunden horse railway, which transported 160,000 travellers per year at its peak, opened in 1834 and was abandoned in 1859. Painstaking research by the ’Verein Pferdeeisenbahn Wels-Maxlheid’ horse railway association has patched together the history of the south track which is documented in the museum. Other sections of the museum are dedicated to the age of the railway and railway developments following the demise of the horse railway. There is also a reconstruction of a salt wagon.
