Built by Karl von Hasenauer as a retreat for the Empress Elisabeth, this wonderful villa is situated within the grounds of the Lainzer Tiergarten. Taking its name from the statue of "Hermes as Guardian" in the garden and completed in 1884 it now hosts exhibitions for the Vienna Museum. The splendidly decorated interior includes designs by Franz Matsch, Hugo Charlemont, Georg and Gustav Klimt as well as a mural by Hans Makart depicting motifs from “A Midsummer Night’s Dream". Visitors can also get a glimpse of items from the internationally famous fashion collection the ‘Modesammlung’.
