It was in this building, where Josef Haydn lived in the late 18th century, that the greater part of the oratorios "The Creation" and "The Seasons" were written. The six rooms of the museum focus mainly on the last years of the composer’s life, Haydn eventually dying here on 31st May 1809 as Napoleon’s army arrived in Vienna, and exhibits include sheet music, documents, portraits and other memorabilia; one of the last grand pianos played by Haydn is also on display. One room is dedicated to Johannes Brahms with furnishings and commemorative items.
