Located on Fleischmarkt, where Greek merchants traded in meat, the ‘Griechische Kirche’ was built in the mid 19th century. The church was designed by Theophil Hansen in neo-Byzantine style. The red brick façade is offset beautifully with shimmering gilt castellations. The delightful interior contains icons and gold covered frescoes as well as a wooden bishop’s throne and the pulpit decorated with a Byzantine double eagle. The premises over the church hold the offices of the Greek national school and the library.
