The Franziskanerkirche is one of Salzburg’s oldest churches whose history can be traced back to Salzburg’s early Christian period. The building has been repeatedly remodelled, most significantly in the 12th and 15th centuries, and encompasses architectural styles from nearly all periods since its foundation. The 15th century remodelling was carried out by the famous architect Hans von Burghausen who is responsible for the magnificent choir. The church has an altar designed by J. B. Fischer von Erlach and four 17th century chapels dedicated by successive Archbishops.
