The Flugmuseum Aviaticum is located next to the Neustadt aircraft factory, where Ferdinand Porsche developed the Austro Daimler aero engine, and the historic airfield, which was witness to the first successful aeroplane flights in Austria. The museum is divided into sections dealing with various aspects of manned flight; balloons, airships, gliders, parachuting, seaplanes, women flyers and air traffic control. Interestingly, during the Second World War, the factory was a major producer of Messerschmitt BF 109 fighter planes and a development centre for jet aircraft and helicopters.
