Throughout Austria there is great pride in past achievements ano more so than in the fire service. The Feuerwehrmuseum der Freiwilligen Feuerwehr in Türnitz has an interesting collection devoted to the history of the local fire department; old uniforms, badges, old equipment, leather buckets, documents and flags. The most interesting item is an old horse drawn hand pump although the huge wooden ladder comes a close second since it looks incredibly flimsy compared to modern equipment. The good news is that this exhibition is free although visitors must make prior arrangements.
