The Fahrngruber Hammer is a living museum around a historic working hammer mill. Since the 16th century and up to the 1980s the hammer mill produced horse shoes, axes and hatchets. Today there is no commercial activity and the hammer mill is used for forging demonstrations by skilled craftsmen. To enhance the experience, visitors can have a go at the forge by joining one of the forging courses which are run by the mill’s owners. Attached to the mill is the Köhlereimuseum, which documents the development of caol as the primary power source for iron working.
