Housed in the beautiful neo-baroque Neue Burg, the Ephesus Museum was opened in 1978 to finally display, in public, the considerable treasures and artefacts taken from the ancient city of Ephesus in Turkey. Although a ban eventually stopped the export of antiquities from Turkey there are some considerable Roman relics on display here including a 70 metre long Parthian Freeze (40 metres on display) from the 2nd century, depicting battles, hunting, riding and victory. There are also several sculptures, belonging to a mystery cult, excavated from the Greek island of Samothrake.
