Zwettl’s Stadtmuseum is housed in a seven hundred year old building. The core of the museum’s collections was assembled by Georg Ritter von Schönerer and one of the five sections is devoted to exhibits of his. The other sections of the museum look at the history of the city of Zwettl, the Kuenringer and Walther von der Vogelweide, crafts, trade, justice and the Anton collection, containing sculptures, pewter, weapons, Majolica earthenware, glassware and porcelain. Walther von der Vogelweide, by the way, was one of Austria’s most famous mediaeval poets and an inspiration to his contemporary Minnesingers, German troubadours.
