Ybbs’ Stadtmuseum is housed in one of the city’s most important architectural treasures, the house at 23 Herrengasse. The building contains a Baroque architectural jewel in the form of the central hall with its outstanding stucco ceiling. The richly ornamented, 18th century ceiling was once thought to be the gift of Emperor Josef II (late 18th century) but recent research suggests a connection with Emperor Karl VI which means that it dates from earlier in the century. The hall is frequently used as a concert space and has a specially commissioned organ which uses digital samples to recreate the sound of an 18th century organ.
