Weitra’s Pfarrkirche, dedicated to St. Wolfgang, has its origins in the year 1400. The building is a typical late Gothic hall church but of spectacular proportions being forty two metres long, twenty one metres wide and fourteen metres high, certainly the largest village church of its type in this area. The choir of the church was eventually dedicated in 1407. The building in its present form retains much of its Gothic splendour and features enhanced by Baroque additions such as the side altars. The highlight of the interior is the late Baroque carved high altar which incorporates the original Gothic holy figures.
