The graves of several notable figures are to be found here in the small cemetery of Friedhof Hietzing. As his studio was in Hietzing, Gustav Klimt was buried here in 1918 having died from pneumonia following a fatal stroke. His good friend Kolo Moser, the artist, is also here along with Katharina Schratt, Emperor Franz-Josef’s mistress, Engelbert Dollfuss, the Austro-fascist leader murdered by the Nazis in 1934, and the composer Alban Berg. A rather ostentatious tomb belongs to the architect Otto Wagner; designed by himself it features none of the Jugendstil themes he was renowned for.
