The impressive St. Pöltner Dom with its 74 metre high tower topped by a characteristic onion dome dates from the 13th century. Its plain façade belies the astonishingly richly decorated red marble and gold Baroque interior, the work of Prandtauer dating from 1722 to 1730. The church contains a wealth of Baroque art including the main altarpiece by Tobias Pock, the frescos in the nave by Thomas Gedon, the fine organ and numerous paintings and statues. There is a notable Rosary Chapel leading off the choir.
