The Kapuzinerkloster in Wiener Neustadt was established in 1623, sponsored by the Holy Roman Emperor Ferdinand II. The monastery is built on the site of an earlier establishment which formerly belonged to the Minorites and dated from 1267. It had been abandoned during the Reformation. The new monastery was consecrated in 1628 by Cardinal Melchior Khiesl and dedicated to the apostle St. Jacob. Unfortunatley the complex of building suffered badly during the Second World War but great efforts have been made to restored what remains to its former glory.
