Designed by Franz Antoine, this was the private royal garden for the Habsburg family for a hundred years. It came to be built upon the remnants of the fortifications which once surrounded the Hofburg and were blown up by Napoleon. Kaiser Franz II was known to have occasionally worked in the garden and the English layout makes it a popular place to relax on the grass. The 38,000 sq metres contains several famous garden sculptures featuring Mozart and various Emperors, as well as a beautiful ‘Jugendstil’ greenhouse.
