Ybbsitz for centuries has been a centre iron forging. The Schwarzes Haus is a typical forge and craftsman’s house dating from the 17th century. The building was improved in the 18th century by the addition of a staircase, timber ceilings and frescos. It has been in the care of the municipality of Ybbsitz since 1970. The admirable front elevation has windows with decorate iron gratings and a fresco of St. Florian. Interestingly, the interior has some Art Nouveau (Jugendstil) features which complement the rather plain interior, although some of the wooden ceilings are decorated with charming simple designs.
