“Oh you men who think or say that I am malevolent, stubborn, or misanthropic, how greatly do you wrong me” began the Heiligenstadt Testament of Ludwig van Beethoven, of which there is a reproduction at this museum, and where the document was written but never sent. This address is one of Beethoven’s many residences and consists of two museums. The official public museum contains a lock of the composer’s hair as well as his death mask. The Beethoven Ausstellung recreates the atmosphere of the period. It was here that the Second Symphony and the Prometheus Variations were completed.
