The unique Autowohnhaus was created by remodelling a 1970’s suburban house in the shape of a Volkswagen beetle. Apart from the unmistakable overall shape of the building, there are numerous automobile details integrated into the design; the bedrooms windows in the shape of headlights, the bathroom window representing a petrol cap and the mock shock absorbers which support the landing in the hall. The architect had to overcome many challenges to bring the state of the art energy efficient design to fruition.
