The Minoriten Sammlung Archäologie is an archaeological collection drawn from Wels and its surrounding areas. The collection ranges from prehistory and early history to the Roman period, which receives particular emphasis because of its significance for the city. There is a reconstruction of part of a Roman city and, along the Roman road, visitors are shown the various tradesmen’s workshops and can see into the home of a wealthy Roman citizen, with its dining room, kitchen and shrine. There is a display of artefacts connected with Roman funeral ceremonies. Additionally, some of the museum’s archaeological excavations are open to visitors.
