The Antonturm stands in the north west corner of Zwettl’s former fortifications. The thirty metre high tower, which dates from the 13th century, has an irregular octagonal cross section at its base and rises in three stages each of different construction. It was originally integrated into the city walls parts of which are still visible. The tower, which survived sieges and attacks by Hussites, Hungarians, Swedes and Napoleonic troops has late Gothic windows and slotted holes for defence. In its day it was undoubtedly an impressive structure.
