This palace, which performed as Vienna’s town hall until 1885, actually dates back to the 13th century but a Baroque façade was added around 1700. The Salvator Chapel, with a magnificent Renaissance portico, houses display cases exhibiting maps and photos and illustrating the city’s history. In the courtyard stands the magnificent ‘Andromeda Fountain’, designed by Georg Raphael Donner in 1741. In the relief, the bronze nymph of Andromeda is seen courageously struggling away from the oncoming sea monster which, amusingly, spouts water from its mouth.
