Laa’s new town hall was built, between 1898 and 1899, to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of the accession of Emperor Franz Josef I, replacing the ancient original town hall. The plans for this impressive building were drawn up by the Viennese architect Paul Prang in a historical style. There are two figures on either side of the balcony symbolising the town’s rural connections; a farmer with sickle and sheaf and a farmer’s wife with a spinning wheel. The city’s coat of arms can be seen on the town hall’s tower.
