In their museum in Langenlois, Helmut and Monika Steininger, specialists in the geology of the region, have assembled one of the most complete mineral collections in Austria. The exhibits have been painstakingly extracted from all manner of sources such as quarries, fields and sand and shale deposits. At the same time, the museum gives an insight into historic mining practises and the lives of Austria’s miners; tools, pit lamps and uniforms. The exhibits not only include rock samples, including amethyst, andalusite and opal, but also jewels and fossils.
