Climb the 148 steps to the top of the ‘City Tower’ to get an impressive view of Innsbruck and the Nordkette mountain range. Completed in 1450, the tower accommodated the rooms of the watchman whose job it was keep look-out for enemies and fires and to keep the peace at night. The roof was originally pointed, but in 1560 it was replaced with bulbous cupolas. The more romantic amongst you may wish to make the ascent of the tower in the evening and reflect on the surrounding panorama by moonlight.
