The Schubertdenkmal can be found in the Kirchenpark, an area which was formerly part of the city’s moat. The monument is the creation of the Korneuburg artist and architect Karl Bodingbauer and dates from 1928. The memorial, which commemorates the one hundredth anniversary of Schubert’s death, shows the musical genius floating on a symbolic globe. Although Schubert did not have any direct connection with the city of Korneuburg, he is revered as one of Austria’s most famous composers since he was born and lived for many years in nearby Vienna.
