The Lower Austria Schools Museum opened in 1980 to preserve a part of the regions educational history and traditions. It was brought about by three things; the success of an educational exhibition at the Weinlandmuseum in Asparn an der Zaya, the closure of many small schools in the Weinviertel and the availability of a huge amount of redundant school equipment. The collections are drawn from ten smaller museums of a similar type and include about 50,000 school objects, six complete classrooms, diverse teaching materials, school books, work by former pupils and many curiosities. The museum was extensively modernised from 2005 to 2007.
