In 1848, Josef Gottfied Pargfrieder, owner of Schloss Wetzdorf and friend of Field Marshalls Radetsky and Wimpffen, established a memorial to the Austrian Imperial Army. The Heldenberg was inspired by the Walhalla at Donaustauf near Regensburg, a military memorial inspired, in turn, by the Parthenon. The memorial, with its imposing victory column, has a large number of busts of famous Austrian soldiers, emperors and heroes. A part of the site commemorates the Italian-Hungarian campaign. Both Field Marshalls Radetsky and Wimpffen are interred here in the mausoleum.
