Puchberg’s landmark castle dates from the beginning of the 13th century. The castle, which was remodelled in the 17th century, was inhabited up to the middle of the 19th century when it fell into ruin after the roof gave way. By the year 1900 it was in a sorry state and it wasn’t until the 1950s, when it was leased from the owners by the municipality, that it received proper protection and renovation could begin. The building consists of an irregular rectangle with walls of about two metres thickness. The keep is approximately eight by eight metres square. Today the castle is used for historical exhibitions and reenactments.
