The Pfarrschuettkasten was originally a dwelling or "Benefiziatenhaus", built around 1530, for a priest who was granted the right of residence here by the gift of a citizen of Laa named Hanns Canzler. The building served this purpose until 1775 when a disastrous fire almost destroyed it and it became a storage place for the parish. In 1839 it was gutted and a new internal structure was inserted so it could better serve as a warehouse. By 1980, the building served no real purpose and it was proposed to tear it down but a local society intervened and the renovated house now serves as a venue for events and exhibitions and a documentation centre for the area.
