Loosdorf’s Pfarrkirche was built in 1587 as a Protestant church in place of an earlier, 12th century, structure, making it one of the few Renaissance style churches in Austria. Of course, this being Austria, it was rebuilt in the Baroque style and acquired its massive tower in 1734. The remodelling of the interior took place in 1730. The church, which is part of the Diocese of Melk, is dedicated to St. Laurenz. Besides its extravagant Baroque interior, the church is famous as the baptismal place of the blessed Maria Theresia Ledóchowska (1863-1922), founder of the Mission Sisters of St. Petrus Claver and Ursula Ledóchowska (1865-1939), founder of the Ursulinen in Krakau.
