The open air museum was created in a section of the former Roman city of Carnuntum. Visitors can walk along the ancient roads past houses, temples and public baths. Some of the ancient building have been reconstructed using authentic materials and techniques to give visitors a glimpse of everyday life in the Roman city, in particular the Temple of Diana. One of the attractions of the museum is the Roman gardens which have been faithfully reconstructed using plants which are known, from excavations, to have been planted by the Romans themselves.
