The Altes Rathaus can be found on Kirchberg’s market place. It was built around the year 1600 in Renaissance style and remains essentially as it was except for the addition of a neo-Gothic tower which was added in 1888 after the Viennese model. It is believed that this tower is the work of the Kirchberg master clock maker, Josef Fandl. The relief of the market town’s coat of arms on the building’s façade is the work of local restaurateur Alois Schiel from 1938. Today the town hall houses the Alchemistenmuseum, containing the world’s largest collection of alchemic objects.
