In the opinion of many experts the Amonhaus in Lunz is one of the most beautiful Renaissance buildings in the whole of Austria. The inscription over the door shows that the building was erected by Martin Ofner in 1551, but, from the layout, it is clear that the design was influenced by Italian architecture. The front of the house is decorated with sgraffiti representations of dolphins. The internal arcaded yard, which dates from 1605, is used for frequent exhibitions and concerts. The building houses the Hammerherrenmuseum which is devoted to the history of Lower Austria.
