The Mozarthaus has an interesting past. It was here that the designer of the world’s steepest mountain railway, the Pöstlingbergbahn, lived from 1893 to 1895. However famous one might consider this engineer, Josef Urbanski, to be, his residence is eclipsed by that of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart who, in 1783, composed the Linz symphony in this house. Mozart’s stay is commemorated by a bust of the composer at the entrance to the house. Inside the building is an beautiful arcaded courtyard dating from the 17th century.
