The Mechanische Krippe of Maria Taferl is a unique work of art. It was the work of Leopold Steindl, who also created the astonishing Alpenpanorama diorama, and was completed in the late 19th century. The diorama consists of more than three hundred figures, human and animal, and tells the story of the history and development of pilgrimage in Lower Austria. The construction is fully automated and makes use of light and sound to enhance the experience.
