Lenten cloths (Fastentuch) once covered most crucifixes and altars in Austrian Catholic churches in the weeks leading up to Easter. They were painted with scenes from the bible and were partly educational in nature. In the Kloster Kirchberg you can see a Fastentuch , which at one hundred metres long, is the longest in the world. It too is covered in representations of scenes from the bible but with a contemporary backdrop and using some unusual materials. It was the work of the ninety five year old ant-war artist Sepp Jahn and his colleague Edith Hirsch.
