The ruins of Burg Kronsegg stand in a commanding position on the site of an ancient settlement. This impressive fortress was first mentioned in the 13th century and was in constant occupation until it was severely damaged by the Bohemians in1619 and 1620. Even so it served as a base for troops and a refuge for local villagers in times of trouble. Further damage occurred during the Thirty Years War. In the 18th century, there was still a military presence of sorts. It wasn’t until the 20th century that the buildings were acquired by the municipality and work was done to preserve the ruin. The fortifications are substantially intact and within them you will find the remains of a beautiful 14th century chapel.
