The historic Waaghaus, literally the Balance Hall, was once the property of the Scherffenberger family until 1524, when it was sold to the Linz municipality and attached to the town armoury. The Renaissance building gets its name because it was once the repository of the city scales, which was of major importance when weights and measures were not standardised. In 1960 the building was converted into an indoor market hall by the Linz city authorities.
