The Gunter Grave, which was formerly in the crypt of the abbey church, is a 14th century relief stone sepulchre in the grounds of Kremsmünster monastery. Legend has it that Gunther, son of the monastery’s founder Tassilo, was killed by a wild boar while hunting in the forest which once covered this region and that the monstery was built near the spot in his memory. The sepulchre’s decorative features showing a sword, a hunting horn, a hound and the wild boar, recall its origins.
