The 11th century Burg Grub lies in a commanding position above the valley of the Grossen Taffa. The castle seems to have survived unchanged since about 1500 and so is an interesting original late mediaeval construction. It has a number of interesting features such as the keep, the remains of a mediaeval palace and a chapel. The ruin was acquired in 1970 by private owners who laboriously renovated the castle over the intervening years with the help of experts from the Technischen Hochschule in Vienna. The beautiful chapel received special attention because of the rarity of its architecture.
