Schloss Gobelsburg, which is surrounded by vineyards, can be found beside the church on Burgberg. The two building actually share a common defensive layout. The castle, which has four wings with a Renaissance centre, is first documented in 1178. There was a major transformation of the building in the 16th century and, later, in 1725 when it was completely remodelled. Langenlois is a main centre of wine growing so, even though there was substantial cellarage in Kellergasse in the town, the castle had its own. The oldest surviving part of this is the ten metre deep 18th century section which houses wooden barrels and the Vinothek. The is the place to come in the Summer and Autumn when you can enjoy the wonderful regional wines.
