Friedrich Gauermann, who lived from 1807 to 1863, was born in Scheuchenstein to artistic parents who fostered his interest in art. He became a distinguished pastoral painter and was a member of the Biedermeier group of artists. Gauermann was particularly well known for his animal paintings. The Gauermann Museum has two exhibition areas; one devoted to works by Gauermann himself and a second devoted to works by contemporary artists, which changes once a year. The museum also has an award winning herb garden, a shop and there is even a signposted circular walk call the Gauermannrundwanderweg.
