The so called Englischer Garten was laid out at the foot of the Heldenberg in 1830 when the area between Wetzdorf castle and the Radetzky-Gedenkstätte was landscaped. Despite suffering neglect in the past, the romantic gardens retain the original fanciful grotto fountain with water basins and the scenic mount Parnassus. The area was recently carefully restored to its former glory and opened to the public. There is a café form the terrace of which you can get a good view of the gardens. Nearby are the summer quarters of the Spanish Riding School where visitors can see the famous Lipizzan horses.
