The Stadtplatz is Laa’s historic centre. Its layout differs little from when it was laid out in the 13th century as a defensive refuge for the population in time of war. The buildings around its perimeter date from various periods in the town’s history. The most important of them is the old town hall, parts of which are Romanesque in style. There are a large number of houses which date from the early 16th century. The pharmacy, although only dating from the middle of the 19th century, is one of the oldest in Austria.
