Next to the parish church in Mistelbach is the Romanesque charnel house dating from about 1200 AD. Over the portal there is a sculpted frieze showing two fabulous beasts or dragons fighting each other, symbolising the fight for the soul of mankind. The charnel house is also known as the Katharinenkapelle because it is dedicated to St. Katharina whose statue may also be found over the portal.
