Within Korneuburg’s cemetery is a small chapel on the site of the former church of St. Johannes vor den Mauern. Mediaeval remains in the locations and on the other side of the road are evidence of the church’s existence and that of other buildings. The cemetery itself was first used unofficially in 1639 and it wasn’t until 1785 that its use was officially recognised. The 19th century cross way is the work of the master builder Molzer with pictures by Alois Stoff, after models by Josef von Führich. There is also a cast iron cross made in Mariazell which originally stood before the monastery gate.
