The monastic church of the Franciscans in Langenlois dates from 1458 and, in common with many of Austria’s older buildings, was remodelled many times over the years due to natural or man-made disasters. After the abolition of the monastery in 1783, it fell into decline and, in the 19th century functioned as dwelling place, warehouse and workshop. In 1990 it was decided to return the building to its original condition and establish a museum devoted to bricklaying and roofing. The museum is well worth a visit if you want to learn about building technology, both past and present, but also to marvel at the high standard of workmanship employed in the renovation of the former church.
